Review of Astro Boy (2009) by Andy C — 21 Oct 2011
Wow, what a surprise! Some truly impressive stuff here for a fun kid friendly film. From the overtly-political liberal tone of the film (red stands for evil, blue stands for pure) to the bouncy action sequences, Astro Boy hits on nearly every level! The layers of politics peppered into the script will bring laughs and smiles from the adults, even if they don't agree with the stands made. Kids will smile and love the big explosions as well as the resounding, pure message of an outsider stuck in a world where he isn't sure he belongs.
This is one of the better kid movies to be released in recent memory. It's got heart, it's got humor, it's got big explosions and it has a good message. I think this one kinda' fell to the wayside in the box office, which is a shame; hopefully you can find it on DVD and give it the fair shake it deserves.
