Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by Jamie P — 27 Feb 2017
I've never posted a review for a film before and very nearly didn't watch this due to the bad press and reviews. I finally took the plunge and watched the film without high expectations, perhaps even believing I might stop the film part way through, like I've done with some of the highest commended films in the media.
I've played the original games, but didn't want to look at this film as a comparison. This was a really atmospheric journey brought to the screen, with artistic conjure and a story that is knotted together smartly with sprinklings of thought by the director and screenwriter. The acting by the lead characters was faultless.
My only suggestion about how it could be improved is targeted at the script. The script was good, but it needed deeper layers to generate more debate and challenge the audience between the different realities and I agree the ending was too predictable and flat. It needed more plot twists.
Okay time for a diatribe on the film critics for this film! I've seriously had enough of critics who base their reviews on nothing but conjecture. Unfortunately the rest of us become influenced by these reviews, I very nearly didn't watch it because of this. Professional critics have just become the garbage of society, selling their souls because they've been paid to write a bad review. They talk like they are above everyone else, with a higher grandeur and an opinion that looks down on the general audience.
