Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by David B — 10 Mar 2017
Is the film perfect? No.
Are there some weird choices like the overuse of present-day narrative? Definitely.
Is it a bad film? NO.
The biggest sin of this film is that only big fans of the game franchise will be able to fully enjoy it. It wasn't filmed with the average viewer in mind and that's the big flaw in it. But for people who love the video games, they'll be feeling quite at home here.
I would still have preferred if they had picked one of the games and simply based the story on it. Black Flag would give a great pirate film (instead we're getting the 675th installment of Pirates of the Caribbean). Unity would be a great dive into the French Revolution.
But this film? Well...had they focused more on the time of the Spanish Inquisition and it would be an awesome film. But modern-day Templar v. Assassin's fight isn't particularly interesting to anyone...
