Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by Mugen_Is_Here — 07 Jan 2017
Horrible movie. It deviated too far from the original story.
The protagonist. He's shown to be just an aggressive lunatic who always chooses to kill or get enraged irrespective of what the choices are. In the original story Desmond was a calm, everyday guy. The leap of faith. They aren't supposed to jump into frozen lakes with ice at the top. The leap of faith ends on a large stack of hay. Jumping onto a frozen lake from a very great height was another lunatic move.
The eagles that are flying all around. They are used to denote the ancestors becoming aware of their surroundings. In the game the eagles are only shown when the ancestor climbs up a very tall structure and takes a detailed look all around. In the movie they are just flying around at random times without any explanation for why they are being shown.
The main character's angry and rashful manner is what plummets the whole movie. You might as well have declared him to be an escaped convict from an Asylum and his behavior would still have remained the same. In the real story Desmond is caring, curious, he asks questions, he doesn't trust but doesn't react either. He takes his time to decide aka he's more rationale.
As for the fight sequences horrible! horrible! horrible! The Assassins carry dart knives which they throw with a pin-point deadly accuracy. In the movie they throw it in a fraction of a second and the visuals immediately cut to someone falling somewhere else. That's retarded. You have to show the brilliant aim they take, the flight of the dart, and whom they killed. In the original since they carry a limited supply of dart knives they don't just kill random people like that. They kill very strategically.
Mass murdering vs assassinating. This is another big failure in the movie. In the original series the Assassins move very very secretly and they camouflage into the crowd, they hire girls, or throw coins on the road to cause distraction. The eavesdrop on conversations to understand what's going on inside a palace. The whole sneaking deal to avoid all the guards. They ONLY assassinate the target which is why they have a hidden weapon in their arms - for a silent kill. And they avoid raising a crowd at all costs. In the movie however, there is NOTHING called as sneaking. The Assassins are basically like a game with some cheat codes applied. They kill hundreds of people single-handedly before they kill their target.
The graphics and sets were very beautiful though. But the whole thing about wearing a hood and hiding, camouflaging yourself is lost.
The last thing is the Animus. In the original series the Animus is a machine where you are seated and you get connected to. That makes sense. However, in the movie the animus is a machine which allows you to jump around and move about just like your ancestor was moving. The whole thing just looks retarded. Suppose your ancestor was climbing a very tall building. Then that cannot be simulated in the movie Animus because the range is limited. Overall there was NOT a SINGLE SILENT KILL. Horrible movie! It's a stain on the name of the Assassin's Creed series.
