Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by C3Realkillah — 12 Jan 2017
Another year another videogame adapted into a big budget movie, you've heard it happen a dozen times so it comes to no surprise that assassin's Creed is the newest addition to the videogame movies that you either love or hate and with this movie its the same gambit.
.. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Believe it or not the movie is actually good, at the very least decent and pretty damn entertaining and a fun watch. The story follows new character callum and his ancestor exploring 1400 era Spain and the search for the Apple of Eden.
It is as far as I know unrelated to the game series featuring a new story and newly designed abstergo and their animus. Without spoilers I will say that the modern day elements are way more fleshed out than the actual memory segments are an unlike in the later games I found it a joy to watch as callum's story unfolded.
Not to say the memories are bad as they sport impressive action sequences but that's mainly all they are there for the story of the assassin ancestor is bare bones with one note characters that despite them being badass assassins, I didn't really care for because I didn't get to know them very well.
Aside from that and a bit of story fumbles it was actually a good adaptation that is nowhere near as bad as critics made it out to be. I recommend it to fans of the series and maybe even newcomers interested in the movie.
It's not perfect but it's a damn good action movie that's a fun watch just don't expect a great story.
