Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by Virgonoshaka — 28 May 2017
So... I finally watched this movie. As a big fan of the games (been playing them since the first one) I can say this is definitely disappointing, although it doesn't say a lot that at this point I expect video game adaptations to be bad.
But even thinking that, this is pretty bad. A story that supposedly adapts the games very well, only that makes the Templars look like the dumbest evil organization ever, a main character that I'm still not sure if he is supposed to be good, bad, or anything in between.
A wooden supporting cast that I can't name one, and special effects that are worse than some TV shows, and changes or absences from the games that really either make no sense (like the Animus) or just infuriating (no Eagle vision? Really?!!).
So all in all, I would have liked it if this movie was good, but I'm not surprised that it's not, and all things considered, I'm glad I didn't pay to watch in theaters. Everything may be permitted, but this movie should have been the exception.
Nothing to see here, move along.
