Review of Assassination of a High School President (2008) by Carol N — 04 Jan 2010
Assassination feels like a much worse Brick. It tries to be smart, noir-ish, funny, and romantic, but succeeds at none of them. Its dialogue is incredibly uneven, its characters are largely satirical and unlikable, and its plot twists are rather ridiculous.
But for some reason, there was something about this film that prevented it from being a total flop. Mischa Barton, despite being an awful actress and way too old for the part, is rather seductive in this.
Her character is by far the most mysterious, but I kinda liked it. Some moments of the film were quite exciting and interesting, and some of it even reminded me of American Pie, but overall it's an uneven, ill-thought out mess.
