Review of Ask the Dust (2006) by Geanine H — 25 Mar 2009
To be honest, I watched this because it's about an aspiring author who moves to the big city in pursuit of literary greatness, and also because of Selma Hayek's boobs. Beyond those there is really nothing to enjoy in this film.
It looks nice but in no way unique, and has a decent story about race and acceptance which is buried among long, boring sections about a romance that has as much realism as emotional pull. Not surprising that the best comments on the nature of writing are attributed to H.
L. Mencken.
