Brilliant film starring the legendary Jack Nicholson. The story was great and I liked how the three storylines kind of joined near the end. It's filled with emotional depth, memorable lines and a wonderful story never to forget.
Story: Melvin Udall, a middle aged man who is a perfectionist, says things that offend most of the time, but at the same time it doesn't look like he means it. He isn't very good at socialising and Jack Nicholson makes the character very interesting to see. We meet Carol, a waitress who serves Melvin every morning and Simon, a homosexual artist. It's hard to explain this story as it is three people's lives that join together near the end. Let's start with Simon.
A male model comes to his house for him to draw and a few weeks in he walks in on the model's 'friends' robbing him. With a pretty violent and cruel scene Simon is hospitalized. Melvin has to take care of Simon's dog for a while and soon he grows attached to it. Simon hasn't got enough money for his hospital fees, lost his creative muse and becomes an emotional wreck. Melvin is pressured into driving Simon to Baltimore to ask his parents for money by Simon's agent. That is close as I can get to telling you the story.
It's a journey of how we see Melvin's changes and it's a very interesting romance story. This is one of Nicholson's best performances by far. The characters are interesting and the story was well written. It's worth checking this one out.
