Review of As Above, So Below (2014) by Barry T — 30 Aug 2014
Mediocre in every way. Takes the stock horror cliches of the day -- like gaunt figures moving slowly in the background -- and transfers it to the catacombs below Paris. The found-footage conceit is annoying and hinders the movie's ability to build tension.
As for the scares -- they're in such short supply, it's bewildering. A film that has a dark, claustrophobic setting to work with and not an ounce of ambition. When it ends so abruptly, you figure it's because the filmmakers were bored with the exercise.
