Review of As Above, So Below (2014) by Chok S — 25 Sep 2014
Despite its somewhat weak climax and character development, this film is still one hell of a ride! The film is very gripping from start to finish thanks to the mystery, tension, and nail-biting suspenseful plot that makes it rise above other found-footage films.
The GORES here include some bloody deaths but nothing too gruesome that will sicken your stomach. The SCARES here is quite similar to The Descent as it tried to build tension in a small location and the fear of being trapped in a somewhat dead-end catacomb.
The found footage here was nicely filmed as well and really gives you the experience of fear, tension, stress, and intension like the characters do in desperately trying to find the way out even though it may be quite predictable in the end.
The film also fall into a typical horror cliche' on the last half with some unintentional laughs and there seems to be not enough character development to make a strong and effective ending. Overall, this is a surprisingly FUN and intensely thrilling found-footage film that keeps you on the edge-of-your-seat from start to finish [B].
