Review of As Above, So Below (2014) by Dan T — 02 Jan 2015
As Above, So Below may seem like a found footage version of The Descent on the surface, but it actually brings together a lot of intelligent components that make it an amazing and original example of the horror sub-genre.
The film, of course, chooses an amazing setting: the Paris catacombs, but it does much more than this. It also draws upon a very real history of alchemy as well as Medieval conceptions of Hell, such as those depicted in Dante, and it uses all of this elements to create an atmospheric journey into the darkest parts of human nature and potentially into the worlds beyond this one.
