Review of As Above, So Below (2014) by Pablo G — 20 Nov 2014
As Above So Below starts off nicely enough, with a few presentation clichés and some early pacing issues, but it manages to present the mystery well enough until the events start happening. It doesnt always feel terribly cohesive and even more dissapointing is the lack of focus regarding all of its historical sources and and awesome little bits of culture, making it more like a mix of fairly well made scenes.
The sound does deserve its recognition, as it nicely supports the claustophobic and eventually hellish atmosphere, and many of the ideas are creative enough to keep the viewer entretained. However, it seems that for every good scene or idea something else brings the movies quality down, and the ending does leave the viewer both unsatisfied in conclusion terms and story-wise.
Entretaining, claustrophobic, a little daring, but ultimately couldve been much better.
