Review of Arthur (2011) by Mike D — 11 Jan 2012
Not a completely terrible movie. There were moments that were quite funny and a few that were touching. Of course, if you want to see a better version of this movie, see the 1981 original starring Dudley Moore.
It's hard to improve on a classic. I give respect to Russel Brand for trying, I think he really does do his best to pay a sort of homage to the original, but it's never a good idea to remake something that was already done so well.
The original Arthur is a classic, and everyone older than 35 knows that movie. This one may have been shooting for a younger audience, but really, Russel Brand only has so much drawing power. I like the guy and enjoyed parts of this attempt, but I'll stick with the original if I really want to have a good laugh.
