Review of Art School Confidential (2006) by Ted R — 09 Oct 2008
This film starts off looking very promising. What better setting could there be for a college comedy than an art school campus filled with zany and eccentric students? The premise works very well throughout the first half of the film.
Each of the many character's giant egos and bizarre personalities collide with each other with humorous and entertaining results. The film takes a wrong turn however when it begins to take itself way too seriously.
A bogus love story and a ridiculous serial killer plot become the main focus, and the comedy goes straight out the window. This movie needed to decide on one identity, comedy or drama. It's very difficult to have your cake and eat it too when attempting to balance between these two genres.
Unsurprisingly, this film does not succeed at this. On top of that, the ending to this movie is ludicrous and insulting to anyone's intelligence.
