Review of Art School Confidential (2006) by Aidan D — 29 Jan 2009
Art School Confidential is an extremely clever and witty comedy directed by Terry Zwigoff and based on the comic of the same name by Daniel Clowes. The film follows Jerome as he attends a wacky art school and begins to learn how the art world really works. He finds that he must adapt his vision to the reality that confronts him. The film stars Max Minghella as Jerome. His performance is definitely above average and he achieves exactly what he needs to for the character. John Malkovich and Sophia Myles give phenomenal supporting performances, however Katherine Moennig is the standout of this film. She's just so unique and original and her performance is amazing. She never fails to impress me, in both television and film. Art School Confidential is a modern classic. The script is smart, Terry's direction is flawless, and the performances are incredible. Art School Confidential is a brilliant blend of razor sharp dark humor, highly intelligent writing, and truly original filmmaking. Terry Zwigoff has crafted many dazzling films and this one is by far his best work yet. I enjoyed everything about this film. Katherine Moennig is such a wonderful actress, she's so gifted and adorable. Art School Confidential is a masterwork and a truly stunning cinematic experience unlike any other. A brilliant and beautifully crafted comedy. A genius film...
Art School Confidential is one of the most original and unique films I have ever seen. Its a simple story told in a very complex way. This film is fun, exciting, and fascinating. A brilliant film rich in character development and skillful writing. Art School Confidential is as clever and enjoyable as cinema can possibly get. A charming, delightful, and intelligent little indie comedy...
