Review of Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) by Zack F — 09 Oct 2012
Arsenic and Old Lace is very funny and quick witted, as well as really dark humored for its time, but its length causes the humor to run dry. Cary Grant runs his usual frantic mouth to an almost annoying overdrive, but Priscilla Lanes charm adorableness evens him out.
Peter Lorre is a scene stealer as the more moral minded yet drunk criminal doctor to the Boris Korloff look alike evil brother. Lorre proves his skillfulness in comedies as he has done in many dramas.
But I wonder how much more interesting if Peter Lorre was the one who thought he was Teddy Roosevelt.
