Review of Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) by Philip Z — 03 Nov 2013
All the whimsy gave me a headache, and after about an hour of it I was ready for it to end. Now, I've liked screwball comedies before, in fact, Howard Hawks' His Girl Friday is one of my favorite movies from this period, but Arsenic and Old Lace just didn't do much for me.
I'm giving it a 6 because I can't totally dismiss a film that has this much energy and with the inclusion of Peter Lorre and a Frankenstein look-a-like, nor can I deny the immense charm of actor Cary Grant.
However, if I were being honest about how I personally felt watching the movie: I'd probably give it a 5.
