Review of Arrival (2016) by Octavia J — 28 Feb 2017
I was literally bored to tears tonight. This is yet another overhyped yawnfest that establishment Hollywood and snooty critics herald and audiences walk out of. Seriously. I counted 4 people leave the theater.
Perhaps their babysitter had an emergency or one in the couple got food poisoning at dinner. But I doubt it. This film takes itself too seriously and views entertainment as something for lesser humans.
The story was uncompelling and the "twist" was only mildly interesting at best. I am giving 2 stars for good acting and a realistic view at how people may respond to alien contact, but as entertainment (which is what a movie is supposed to be) this one failed.
Miserably.
