Review of Arrival (2016) by Bassem E — 15 Mar 2017
Arrival is a well paced mystery that unfolds over 100 or so minutes in a very good way. Time is the primary actor in the plot; how much there do they have how it unfolds and - simply - it's flow.
Most of the scenes are shot in low light dusk/dawn/night/florescent with only a few day scenes which were used rather successfully to deliver an emotional impact. That reminded me of the James Cameron's 1989 Abyss.
However if you have a good story you should not cheap out on less than average lead actors. The single note acting of Amy Adams, the bland performance Renner (whoever he is), and Whitaker - although quite capable - had very little to do. All blame of course goes to the director for casting these two.
