Review of Arrival (2016) by Anthony C — 22 Feb 2017
This movie made me make an account. One of the best I've ever seen. If there are logical flaws, they're not particularly obvious which can't be said of many films touching on the concept of time. There were at least a few points I did not see coming at all, and honestly the way Amy Adams manages to portray her character's decision at the end, and it was one of the heaviest I've seen in a film, was Oscar worthy, there's no doubt in my mind. One thing that I thought was really cool is something not explicitly stated in the movie, but in my opinion comes through as pretty obvious, just a warning this next portion will contain spoilers.
When she's standing in front of this behemoth of an alien being toward the end, completely in awe of it. It is also looking down at her with awe and respect. Remember, Humanity at some point down the road is powerful enough to save them. To it, Humans are probably just as intimidating and awe-inspiring as she believes it to be. Watch the two from this perspective and it really makes for an incredible display.
The only way I see you finding this movie as anything short of a masterpiece is if you don't appreciate puzzle-solving in its various forms. You might then find portions of the movie incredibly boring. I, however, found every second riveting.
