Review of Army of the Dead (2021) by Notoriousfraud — 18 May 2021
Army of the Dead is a shocking disappointment and this is coming from someone who likes Snyder’s work especially the recently released “Snyder Cut” of Justice League. The opening prologue was not impressive in my opinion, choppily edited scenes with weirdly large fonted credits that take up the whole screen to where you cannot see anything behind them.
I am also very disappointed that Snyder fired comedian Chris D’elia from the film over matters that have become very overblown, a young woman came out a couple months ago and claimed a sexual assault happened nearly a decade ago with no evidence.
Another anonymous woman claimed that D’elia had access to pornographic images of minors, again with no evidence. D’elia has since been exonerated in court and beat all these false claims but that matters little to Snyder who appears to be more into virtue signaling than making entertainment, especially since his ill advised endorsement of Joe Biden.
D’elia’s replacement, Tig Notaro, a short 50 year old lesbian woman who were expected to believe is a grizzled chopper pilot is absolutely dreadful. All her scenes were filmed in front of a green screen and you can definitely tell, with dialogue that was obviously written with another actor in mind.
Other than Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as the leader of the mercs after the vault and Hiroyuki Sonata (Mortal Kombat) as the tycoon who hires him and his team, the film is horribly miscast.
Despite working on the ensemble Justice League, there are really no notable or even known actors in the film. With a story that requires an Expendables level cast, Snyder instead casts short and skinny women to fill out a team of military trained mercenaries.
Asking me to suspend my disbelief for mutant zombies is one thing, expecting me to believe that a 5 foot nothing 120 pound woman is as reliable in a combat situation as a 6 foot 200+ pound man is just ridiculous and Snyder should know better.
