Review of Army of Darkness (1992) by David B — 10 May 2012
I didn't really expect this to better the awesome second film but I didn't expect that this was going to be bad. It's not a poor film and it does have it's moments, my highlight has to be the little Ashes, tormenting Ash (Bruce Campbell, who is great) in what I believe is the funnist scene in the whole film but it was so wacky that it went a bit too far and tried very, very hard to be funny.
They had a good budget in this film and it showed but I felt that the last two films had it's REAL B-movie style and this was wasted with over the top gags and silly special effects. The shock and horror was gone, as was the disturbingness and was a huge let down.
This probably would've been better if it wasn't an offical sequel and just a brand new film all together...but then again, I guess I would have the same opinion anyway. It was good they tried something new but sometimes stretching a film can only take you so far.
I'm glad I've seen it though but it just wasn't the same...also,I've just heard they are remaking The Evil Dead. Fuck you, Hollywood, think of something new and leave it alone.
