Review of Armageddon (1996) by Guido S — 03 Feb 2014
In the only Michael Bay movie that will probably go into the Criterion Collection, an asteroid is on its way to earth and NASA plans to send a crew up there to land and drill a nuke into it, because 'merica.
They find their crew as the oil rig where Ben Affleck is sleeping with Liv Tyler and her dad played by Bruce Willis doesn't approve. They end up going through the training and making it there, before crashing on the planet.
There are some complications while drilling since they missed their mark and they draw straws to see who is left behind, before Willis takes the dramatic choice of sacrificing himself. The film is ok, it is typical Bay and the science is stuff physics teachers always liked to joke at.
The film is still enjoyable, if a bit over dramatic at points. It's a big dumb action movie, but that's about what you come to expect from Bay. With all that, it is a good way to blow off some time.
