Review of Armageddon (1996) by Turtleboy G — 20 Oct 2015

Interesting (I guess) movie, that strays from most common sense. From the get go we see the below average CGI effects that Michael Bay had not yet mastered, which most of the time just actually looked like crap.

There's a lot of explosions, chaos from falling meteorites, stupid humor, and even a short scene with Bay himself in it, just because why the hell not I guess. So ya doesn't take long for this to be painfully obvious who directed this one, and it isn't all too much better than most of his other work.

There is some actually good sad moments, need the end mostly, but they can't save this movie overall. Somehow training and sending drillers into space is easier than training astronauts on drilling and sending them into space, and of course the whole preparation plus actually pulling off the task takes place in a period of 18 days.

Don't really know what takes place here that is actually plausible. The drilling machines can drive fine on the asteroid, but then also drive off cliffs and fly without gravity, they only needed to drill a hole 800 ft (or meters any remember) deep for the bomb, that needs to blow up a asteroid the size Texas in half, whole of course happens, and it breaks in perfect halves and barely misses both sides of Earth.

Wow. Acting and script are dull, nothing special here at all, CGI is mostly crap, effects for explosions are ok for the time in terms of Si-Fi movies, but to think that things like Titanic and Saving Private Ryan came out basically the same time, puts this one to shame.

Also the set for the asteroid when they are on it looks like garbage! I could hare made something better in my backyard. Anyways it is a classic, but not at all a good one, doesn't make a lot of sense, doesn't impress at all, is amusing at how dumb it can be at least.
