Review of Armadillo (2010) by Justin M — 23 Sep 2010
Extremely professional and wellstructured documentary film. Shows young soldiers tension and confusion in asymmetric warfare in Afghanistan. Chaos in battle is filmed and edited far better than in almost any feature film. Soundwork is on the level too, you can feel the blast of recoilless in your teeth.
Avoids moralism, leaves the thinking to viewer. What I kinda missed was badmouthing against totally strange culture, also the numbing boredom of a soldiers life is played bit down.
Thematically back to back with american Restrepo -documentary and Patrick Sheane Duncan's Vietnam movie 84C MoPic (1998). Nowdays it's really hard to make any decent fiction about war, documentaries grown so good.
