Review of Armadillo (2010) by Tor M — 26 Apr 2011
Very relevant and well made documentary. It's building up like a action movie, but this is reality - not fiction. I watched it since I wanted to know more about the world. Why do people volunteer for war and uglyness? I certainly wouldn't, but I understand why some guys would.
The film gave me an impression that there are very different people fighting in Afghanistan. The ones that go like: "yeah, woo, I killed a guy! Blood and stuff!" and the other guys that "does their job" and then go to sleep. Surely, the enormus kick they must get psych them up, and I couldn't even imagine what they go through down there.
I'm glad I saw this film. It's beautifully shot, it was like being a part of the troop. I got close to the soliders feelings and their everyday camp life. Still I was left a little bit disappointed but I guess I can blame my expectations for that. I wanted to get even closer to each and every solider (at least four or five more) and I think that's what I missed the most. Hopefully the extra material will give me some.
Anyways, a great documentary that showed me the reality of what many soliders, including some of my best friends, have and will experience.
