Review of Argo (2012) by Jake M — 16 Apr 2016
One of my favorite movies ever, Argo is a beyond brilliant film. Ben Affleck is an alright actor/director in my opinion however he completely blew me away in Argo, and the fact that he didn't just star in the film but directed it as well amazes me.
Argo follows the events on November 4th 1979 when the Iranian revolution reached its boiling point and took 52 Americans hostage, however 6 of them escape in the midst of the chaos and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. And how the US took action in posing as a movie crew filming in that location in order to free them. The main character Tony Mendez is portrayed by Ben Affleck and he's amazing for the part and they honestly could not have gotten a better actor to play the role. Another great character is Lester Siegel played by Alan Arkin he was absolutely brilliant for this role he totally stole the show, this is Arkins best film and he's already a good actor in general.
Though Arkin and Affleck do a great job in this film the other actors in the film such as John Goodman (John Chambers), Bryan Cranston (Jack O'Donnell), and Kyle Chandlers (Hamilton Jordan) (even though he has limited screen time). Affleck showed me in this film that he's actually smarter and more clever than I thought he was, though the film isn't 100% real its still a pretty good representation on what happened. Argo isn't just a great drama but it also keeps you on the edge of your seat and has many darkly comedic moments for relief to make the film easier to watch. Argo is an instant classic in my book I hope Ben Affleck makes more films about historical events because as of now thats what he's best at.
