Review of Argo (2012) by Lansden S — 03 Apr 2014
Ben Affleck directs and stars in this "true story" of a CIA operative attempting to smuggle 6 Americans--hidden by the Canadians in Tehran during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis--back to the U.
S. of A. If you don't know the actual story behind this event you'll find the movie very watchable and suspenseful right up until the final credits roll. However, if you understa...nd the dramatic license Affleck took with the facts you'll see this film for what it really is.
..history re-written that minimizes Canada's participation and falsely portrays and under-minds Great Britain and New Zealand's support. Oscar nominated for Best Picture, Affleck also stretches the truth by adding two suspenseful scenes near the film's end--thus, earning a full-letter downgrade from me.
Grade: B.
