Review of Archipelago (2011) by Ira K — 09 Apr 2011
This is a slow-burner. It took me a while to work out if I actually liked it. A mother and her two grown-up offspring take a family holiday by the sea, while the father staycations in the office. Constipated by civility as they are, it takes them some time to realise that they hate each other.
The mother's increasing despairing and accusatory phone calls to the father, who is not even a voice-off in this drama, are an amusing feature. As is the placatory Mr Badger. Good to see a film where the character's backstory is every bit as intriguing as what is on the screen.
Not something you could say about 'The Expendables', for instance.
