This thoroughly effective, fond study of a complicated family dynamic may not always be an easy watch - Hogg's most obvious stylistic influence undoubtedly being French Auteur Michael Haneke, stylistically speaking, but without his penchant for ominous, steadily built tension. Instead Hogg relishes the various fixed camera shots - teasing beautiful depth from the relationships and objectively observing the faultless performances with juxtaposed intimacy and detachment.

Gruelling viewing (according to the screen of groaning punters I was in/my wife) but ultimately completely successful.
