Review of Aquarius (2016) by Ryan B — 18 Oct 2016
A brilliantly studied character piece about an aging Brazilian widow, Aquarius creates a rich environment populated by complex supporting characters and a lead who's company I couldn't get enough of.
Like Noah Baumbach's Frances Ha, I just wanted to spend more time with our protagonist and hang out listening to great music. The film balances joyous gatherings and awkward confrontations with such deft naturalism to make John Cassavetes proud.
One of the best films of the year.
