Review of Aquarius (2016) by Angelo T — 07 Nov 2016
A movie about the right to keep our own memories and history. The plot goes slowly and presents in a realistic way the social and cultural abyss that exists in Brazil, between middle class and poor people.
It also presents the bizarre culture of privileges in force in the country, which cruelly harms who is at the base of the social pyramid. Sonia Braga, in the role of the widow who struggles to continue living in her apartment, is a monster that dominates all the scenes, in an interpretation that should have earned her an Oscar nomination.
The director uses amazing plans and "resurrects" with mastery and taste the use of zoom. The low point is the length of the movie - excessive. The viewer soon realizes how much fat could be taken from the film, which serves no purpose at all, except reiteration.
