Review of Aquaman (2018) by Brody W — 13 Jan 2019

When I went to see Aquaman, I wasn't sure what to expect. I came away pleasantly surprised, but still not blown away. The CGI was well done especially considering that a large part of the movie was under water.

The plot was also engaging and was well developed. Coming into the movie I did not know much about Aquaman, however, the movie did a good job of explaining his backstory. I also thought the actors who played Aquaman and Mera did great jobs in their roles.

While this movie certainly had its strengths, it also had some weaknesses. The movie was predictable at moments like Aquaman's mom still being alive. Some characters were also underutilized like Black Manta.

This movie was compared to Black Panther by some and while I can see the similarities, I don't think this movie was nearly as good as Black Panther. That is not supposed to be a knock on this movie, but there are some elements of Aquaman that put it at good instead of great.
