Review of Aquaman (2018) by Dontbenasty — 26 Dec 2018
Provided that I haven't seen Wonder woman and justice league yet, Aquaman is the first DCU film I can FINALLY get behind. Aquaman accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, deliver colorful, over the top comic book action, and it succeeds with witty characters and a sense of adventure and grandeur I haven't felt in a movie for a long time.
It does have some flaws, like the movie uses some somewhat misplaced flashbacks to explain Arthur's backstory and I would prefer if it was all in the beginning as a normal sequence. Another thing is that it might be a bit hard to follow with all the kingdom and their plights thrown around and it might leave the uninitiated, like myself, a bit lost and slow to pick up what is going on.
But besides these issues the movie is still pretty great. Not some sort of cinematic masterpiece, mind you, but it would be unfair to judge it as some oscar bait trash. Don't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree.
