Review of Apt Pupil (1998) by Olli H — 02 Apr 2011
"Apt Pupil" is about a teenager, who finds out his neighbour is a Nazi war criminal and with this information he starts to blackmail him to tell stories about death camps and other "things they are too afraid to tell him in school", as he says it. So begins his descent in to the mind of a sadistic killer, who himself starts to remember how to be a monster again.
This movie is powered by the duo act of Brad Renfro & Ian McKellen and the mindgames their characters play against each other. It also has solid directing from Bryan Singer, this movie being being his follow-up to his masterpiece "The Usual Suspects".
So in the end, "Apt Pupil" was more of a descent-to-darkness type of movie, with very good performances from the main duo.
