Review of Apt Pupil (1998) by Daniel A — 08 Sep 2011
Renfro's great and McKellen is electric, but Bryan Singer's Apt Pupil is sadly not as great as its performances. Though Singer packs in a couple of standout chills, the film overall falls a little flat.
By the end of the movie I felt things should have been darker, and the nature of McKellen's ex-Nazi explored in more detail; in other words what the film had to say by its conclusion was just not as interesting as I hoped it would be.
However there are still enough creepy thrills present to keep you at least mildly entertained.
