Review of Apt Pupil (1998) by Theresa G — 14 Apr 2007
The idea of the story, a boy finding out about a former ss-soldier and war criminal who lives anonymously and hidden in the usa, wasn`t bad at all.But then again it partly had so incoherent actions that didn`t do any good to its message. Honestly I couldn`t decide if I was dealing with a somehow meaningful film about the hereafter of a SS-soldier, the evil in humans, the story about true hatred or if it was just a moderate thriller.
Ian McKellen was very strong and expressive though, whereas I couldn`t stand Brad Renfro at all.His character was just too evil for my taste, and that out of no good reason in my opinion.
Mindblowing score by John Ottman.
