Review of Appaloosa (2008) by Christian C — 15 Mar 2010
For the life of me, I don't understand why Viggo Mortensen isn't in more films. Great underrated actor. I loved this movie. Could be that I'm partial to the northern New Mexico vistas that make me want to pick up the family and move to Santa Fe; but Viggo, Ed Harris (playing his 2nd role as a guy named "Virgil" - Anyone remember "The Abyss?") and Jeremy Irons were fantastic.
The movie makes you hate Renee Zellweger, which is just another reason to like it even more. I also appreciate the fact that most of the characters had definite European accents, which was more realistic in terms of dialect in the old west as you had a lot of fresh-off-the-boat immigrants trying to build a new life for themselves during the national expansion to the territories in the later 19th century.
Not everyone sounded like Sam Elliot or John Wayne.
