Review of Appaloosa (2008) by Deb S — 03 May 2010
A pair of freelance gun-for-hire lawmen Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) are hired by the town of Appaloosa to bring justice against a rich local landowner Bragg (Jeremy Irons) and his thuggish ranch hands.
The two men have an easy almost telepathic, relationship but their lives are spun around once Allison "Ally" French (Renee Zellweger) comes to town - she makes a pitch for Virgil and hooks him although, confusingly, she also makes advances to Everett, which he rejects.
Bragg is caught and convicted, but his hired guns use Ally as leverage to have him freed. Bragg escapes with his men and Allie through the desert, with Virgil and Everett hot on their tail. The action sequences were realistic, quick and packed full of shooting, which makes perfect sense, since everyone in the gunfights are supposed to be well trained gunmen.
