Review of Appaloosa (2008) by Kristin R — 05 Apr 2012
I'm not what you'd call a Western fan by any stretch of the imagination (Deadwood excluded), but I'd heard from several people that this was a good one. Ok, and I won't lie, the fact that it has Viggo Mortenson in it was a real bonus! ;).
Honestly, even though it has Ed Harris & the brilliant Jeremy Irons in it, Viggo stole the show. His portrayal of the quiet, serious, well-read, good shot side kick to Harris' big man on the desert campus was spot-on & thoroughly enjoyable to watch.
The more roles I see him in, the more I realize he has quite a bit of depth going on. Give this film a shot, even if you don't care for Westerns. Just cover your eyes when Rene Zeleegger comes on the screen.
I swear they made her ugly on purpose. Doesn't help that her character is not very likable either.
