Review of Apollo 13 (1995) by Grant T — 28 Feb 2015
It's probably unfair to comment on the technical aspects of Apollo 13 made in late nineties. But with what he had and by choosing what he needed to show and what he didn't, Ron Howard commendably crafted a brilliant space opera set in the earlier stages of mankind's adventures into the dark void.
When the story is already known by the viewer, the stakes are higher for the filmmaker and when the known story is also a part of some huge historical event not just from some bestseller novel, you can imagine the pressure to get everything right. Ron Howard chose his casts right and they did great; Tom Hanks, Ed Harris especially. And he and his crew did the rest of the things right, nine academy award nominations can vouch for that.
Apollo 13 is an absolute masterpiece.
