Review of Apocalypto (2006) by Nate G — 12 Apr 2012

This movie was flooded with characters and places that most aren't used to seeing in one film. It starts out in a small Mayan village, giving the viewer a look into the simple, but dangerous life of a tribesman.

Then it escalates into something more dangerous when the village is pillaged and all of the men and women were either killed or taken prisoner- leaving the children to fend for themselves. The story follows Jaguar Paw through his struggles during this adventure.

This movie carries a certain intensity about it, without non-stop action. Gibson did a great job using light and dark as well as the contradictions within the pace of the movie to keep you, as a viewer enthralled.

Historically, much of it may have been inaccurate, but I don't remember anything about it being based on a true story. I really felt like I was watching a real ancient people when they were in their village.

Also, a guy gets his face eaten by a jaguar.
