Review of Apocalypto (2006) by Howie V — 19 Jan 2011
Mel Gibson knows what he's doing. It's a right of passage story with an epic scope. We're right in there with "Jaguar Paw" as he goes through it. Fighters learn early - or they don't - that there's no difference between the hero and the coward [in terms of how they feel]. It's what the hero does that makes him the hero and what the coward does or doesn't do that makes him the coward. Every one of us are heroes and cowards. I like everything about this movie. Two thumbs up!
"Fear. Deep rotting fear. They were infected by it. Did you see? Fear is a sickness. It'll crawl into the soul of anyone who engages it. It has tainted your peace already. I didn't raise you to live with fear. Strike it from your heart. " - his papa.
