Review of Apocalypto (2006) by Brandon W — 09 Mar 2016
Apocalypto is directed and co-written by Mel Gibson, and it stars Rudy Youngblood adventure film about the last years of the Mayan civilization. I never watched this before despite the fact that I've seen Braveheart 2 times, and I got to watch it in Spanish class, which I'm glad that I got to watch it as its a great film, and it wasn't an edit version of the film like some of the films in high school.
The acting is really good, and the script by Mel Gibson and Farhad Safinia is well written. It has a good story, and it has very tense moments. It has brutal parts that are not quite for everyone, but it does make me a bit more interested in it.
There are a few funny moments in here to settled the mood until it gets very serious, and the score by James Horner is very good. There were some questions that weren't quite answered clearly, and the beginning had some pacing issues.
I didn't care that much for some of the characters, but those didn't stop me for having a great time with the film that this might be the one to get me curious to watch Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ.
