Review of Apocalypse Now (1979) by Alexander L — 21 Jun 2015
Every aspect of this film is pitch perfect in Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam epic.
Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando give haunting and dark performances as victims of the horrors of war. Martin Sheen gives the performance of a lifetime as Captain Willard, a man who is compelled to rejoin the fighting after his first tour. He wants a mission and they bring it to him like "Like room service". He is charged with terminating the mad Colonel Kurtz (Brando) with extreme prejudice. The mission leads him to being by a tiger, fighting natives and riding helicopters to Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries.
With a screenplay from John Milius, a supporting cast boasting Harrison Ford, Robert Duvall and Laurence Fishbourne and breathtaking sets, Apocalypse Now is by far the greatest war film of all time and a must see for all.
