Dark, disturbing, and often twisted, Apocalypse Now isn't your average American movie classic. That doesn't mean it doesn't deserve its status, however; it's also astoundingly profound, marvelously acted, and brilliantly written, adding up to a spectacular film that's hurt only slightly by its mildly disappointing conclusion.
