Review of Apocalypse Now (1979) by Jason W — 08 Sep 2018
The actors were stoned during filming. The script didn't exist. Real corpses were used instead of props. Coppolla has managed to create one of the most honest war films ever made, managing to get the audience to see the war in its entirety, unfiltered.
Apocalypse now doesn't waste time showing traditional Vietnam shootouts, but instead a more humane journey that aptly shows the true horrors of war. It's an insane film in every sense, yet brilliant in every sense too.
