Review of Anywhere but Here (1999) by David K — 29 Jul 2004
Anywhere But Here.
I was hanging out with a lady friend today and she wanted to see a DVD. She was in the mood for a "chick flick", so rather than sit through something I knew I would hate, I through out some suggestions of my own. First, I suggested Annie Hall, but she wasn't interested. Knowing that she recently loved Where the Heart Is, I then suggested Anywhere But Here knowing that I liked this film the first time I saw it. Anyway, to make a long story shorter, even though it is geared more towards the females, Anywhere But Here is a really good movie, and I enjoyed it even more on this viewing. Natalie Portman gives one of her best performances.
***1/2/**** (Second Viewing).
Jules and Jim .
I had high hopes for this movie, but I was left feeling pretty cold. I couldn't manage to relate with any of these characters, which made it difficult to care about anything that happened to them. The actions of each character felt unrealistic, and I had trouble understanding why they were doing the things they were doing.
**1/2/****.
