Review of Any Given Sunday (1999) by Michael A — 23 Feb 2010
Oliver, Oliver more please, more. This film is way-way ahead of it's time. Ok, 2 years ahead, this is a Post 9-11 movie. Yeah, I know no one gets it. I bet, Mr. Atrocity does. All the background imagery of the New World Order, set on the gridiron.
It is so stark and hypnotic that it keeps you watching. I can't tell if Oliver loves or hates the pigskin playgrounds. But he sure can sell it all, in 2 min sound bytes, of film-mic educational glory.
The 'Inch' speech works. Thanks to Pacino for that one. The movie is steaming like the Director, he's steaming, like Willie Beamen, all the way to over-sell a 'studio student' film! Give him the Pantheon ring, Oliver Stone deserves one.
